About Rowan Rehema Saleh :
Questions were answered by Elijah Saleh (Rowan Rehema Saleh 's Father)
What values or life lessons do you strive to instill in your child, and how do they embody those values?
As a parent, I believe that raising my child with strong values is one of my greatest responsibilities. I want my child to grow up with a good heart, a sharp mind, and the courage to do what’s right. Here are the values I strive to instill in my child — and the beautiful ways I see them living these lessons every day: 1. Kindness I always remind my child to be kind — to friends, family, strangers, and even animals. I see them embody this when they share their toys, offer a helping hand, or comfort someone who’s sad. Their gentle words and warm smile remind me that kindness truly lives in their heart. 2. Respect I teach my child to respect themselves, others, and the world around them. They show this respect by listening to me and their teachers, greeting elders politely, and treating everyone fairly. They also respect nature — they never litter and love taking care of plants and pets. 3. Honesty I want my child to always tell the truth and stand by what is right, even when it’s hard. I see their honesty when they admit mistakes without fear and when they choose to do the right thing, even if nobody is watching. This makes me trust them even more. 4. Hard Work I encourage my child to work hard and never give up easily. They embody this value when they do their homework on time, practice new skills with patience, and try again when they fail. Their determination makes me proud. 5. Gratitude I teach my child to be thankful for the big and small things in life. I see this in their habit of saying “thank you” for simple acts of love, like a meal or a gift. They often remind me how lucky we are, which fills my heart with joy. 6. Empathy I want my child to understand how others feel and to help whenever they can. They show this when they stand up for a friend, share snacks with someone who has none, or simply listen when someone needs to talk. 7. Courage I hope my child grows up brave enough to face challenges and speak up for what’s right. They show courage when they try something new, perform in front of people, or stand up for themselves and others when it matters. 8. Humility I remind my child that no matter how much they achieve, they should stay humble. They embody this when they celebrate their wins without boasting and when they help others shine too. Every day, in small and big ways, my child shows me that they carry these values in their heart. I know they are not perfect — but they try, they learn, and they grow. And that is all I could ever hope for.
What aspirations or dreams does your child have for their future? How do they plan to achieve them?
My Aspiration: Becoming a Teacher How I will achieve this; I dream of becoming a teacher because I want to help other people learn and grow. I want to share knowledge, inspire children like me, and make a difference in the world. To achieve this dream, I know I need to start preparing while I am still young. Here is what I will do: 1. I will love learning I will study all my subjects carefully and do my best in class. I will read books, write stories, and practice speaking clearly. I will ask questions and never be afraid to learn new things. 2. I will help others learn I will help my classmates when they don’t understand something. I will pretend to be a teacher at home by teaching my siblings, friends, or even my dolls and toys. I will make my own little notes, quizzes, and practice exercises for fun. 3. I will practice good communication I will speak clearly and confidently in front of others. I will practice reading aloud and telling stories. I will listen to others carefully, because good teachers listen too. 4. I will develop patience and kindness I will be kind and helpful to my friends, family, and people in my community. I will be patient when someone makes a mistake or takes time to learn something. I will treat everyone with respect, just like a good teacher does. 5. I will find teachers as my role models I will watch how my teachers teach and learn from them. I will ask my teachers how they became teachers and what they love about their job. I will tell my parents and teachers about my dream so they can encourage me. 6. I will build my teaching skills I will join clubs and activities like drama, debate, or reading clubs to build my confidence. I will practice explaining things in simple ways, like how to do a math sum or spell a word. I will stay organized and keep my schoolwork neat. 7. I will work hard towards higher education I will work hard in my final exams so I can go to college or university one day. I will choose subjects related to education or the topics I would like to teach. I will learn about teaching methods, lesson planning, and how to manage a classroom. 8. I will take care of myself I will eat well, get enough sleep, and exercise so I stay healthy and active. I will balance my study time with fun and rest. I will always try to stay positive and strong, even when things are difficult. 9. I will believe in myself I will remember that it takes time and effort to become a good teacher. I will not give up, even if I make mistakes along the way. I will always believe that my dream is possible if I stay focused and keep learning. One day, I will stand in front of a classroom, write on the board, and help my students become the best they can be. I will start now, step by step, and I will make my dream come true!
What do you believe makes Rowan Rehema Saleh truly special and deserving to win this contest?
I strongly believe that this remarkable child deserves to win the 100,000 Kenyan shillings because her story is one of true resilience, compassion, and hope for our community. Despite coming from a very poor background and growing up in a divorced family, she has never allowed her circumstances to define her future. Staying with her loving grandmother in Emukhalari Village, Mumias East, Kakamega County, she has consistently excelled in her education, always achieving the best grades in her class. Her dedication and discipline are truly admirable — she proves that hard work and focus can overcome any challenge. What makes her even more special is her generous heart. Even with the little she has, she always thinks of others first. She carefully saves any small amount she can, not for herself, but to buy snacks for other poor children in the village who often go without. She shares food and clothes with those in need, spreading hope to families who struggle just like hers. Her small acts of kindness are like a light that touches so many lives, reminding us that true wealth is not in what we have but in how we care for others. This prize would not only reward her for her academic excellence and selflessness but also empower her to continue her humanitarian acts on an even bigger scale. It would ease the burden on her grandmother, support her education, and help her reach even more children in the village who need a reason to believe in a brighter tomorrow. When we invest in a child like her, we are investing in the future of our community — a future built on kindness, sacrifice, and hope. She is more than deserving — she is a true inspiration. Let us give her this chance to keep changing lives, one good deed at a time.
